FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
World Day Against Child Labour 2026Ending Child Labour: Protecting Every Child’s Right to Education, Protection and Development
Mogadishu, Somalia – 12 June 2026
On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, Somali Awareness and Social Development Organization (SASDO) joins the global community in reaffirming its commitment to ending child labour and ensuring that every child enjoys their fundamental rights to education, protection, health, and development.
Child labour continues to deprive millions of children worldwide of their childhood, dignity, and opportunities. In Somalia, many children remain vulnerable to hazardous work due to poverty, displacement, climate-related shocks, conflict, and limited access to quality education and social protection services.
Every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, play, and develop their full potential. No child should be forced into work that compromises their health, safety, education, or future.
SASDO calls upon government institutions, humanitarian and development partners, community leaders, parents, and the private sector to strengthen collective efforts aimed at:
* Preventing and eliminating child labour in all its forms.• Expanding access to quality and inclusive education.• Supporting vulnerable families through sustainable livelihoods and social protection programs.• Strengthening child protection systems and referral pathways.• Raising awareness on children’s rights and the harmful impacts of child labour.
As we commemorate this important day, we urge all stakeholders to take concrete actions that place children’s rights and wellbeing at the center of policies, programs, and investments.
Together, we can create a future where every child is protected, educated, and empowered to thrive.
